I entered the insurance business on January 1, 1981 as an agent with Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company. I was housed in their Regional Office here in Greenville, North Carolina, and initially was trained to work with individuals, families and small business owners. My task was to help evaluate their current insurance coverage and develop solutions for any insurance needs we were able to uncover. I also began working with professionals such as doctors, dentists and attorneys by helping them protect their earning potential and their business interests with disability insurance and business overhead coverage.
In an effort to better serve the needs of all my clients I began taking insurance courses offered by The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in early 1982..Their courses covered all aspects of the financial services industry, and after five years of studying at night and on weekends I had completed all ten courses they required to earn my Chartered Life Underwriter or CLU designation. I was awarded my diploma on October 15, 1988. Also during this period I began working as an associate of CIC Financial in Kinston, North Carolina.
In March 1989 I decided to leave what had become Jefferson Pilot Life to open my own insurance agency. From March 1989 through December 1995 I operated as the Hap Maxwell Insurance Agency. Then in late December 1995 I incorporated my business as Hap Maxwell Insurance & Investment Services, Inc.
My business has evolved a great deal over 43+ years. I still write a good amount of life insurance annually, but the majority of my time is now spent working with clients on ways to safely save and grow their nest eggs for retirement. In preparation and anticipation of their retirement we explore the products and strategies that can best maximize and guarantee the income that can be generated from their savings. Incorporating insurance products into their plans allows me give my clients something very special – GUARANTEES!
